Summer is outdoor concert season, and there is plenty of time left to enjoy music al fresco! If you’re looking for somewhere to eat before a concert and aren’t familiar with the area, read on for some dining suggestions:

Venue: Meadow Brook Music Festival, 3552 Walton Blvd., Rochester Hills

Upcoming shows: Hozier on 7/29, Jim Gaffigan on 8/7, Jackson Browne on 9/6

Nearby dining: Red Ox Tavern, 3773 E. Walton Blvd., Auburn Hills, offers a menu full of burgers and sandwiches, like a Grilled Turkey Reuben and Fish Sandwich. You’ll also find Panini sandwiches, specialty pizzas, pastas and entrees on the menu. There’s a great selection of Michigan beers, and it’s just under a mile away from the venue.

If you want to bring dinner to your lawn seat, swing by Burgrz, 3204 Walton Blvd., Rochester Hills, which is also about a mile away.

Venue: DTE Energy Music Theatre, 7774 Sashabaw Rd., Clarkston

Upcoming shows: Kid Rock 8/7 through 8/22, Foo Fighters on 8/24, Van Halen on 9/4

Nearby dining: Pizzeria Dolce, 7743 Sashabaw Rd., Clarkston, just a half mile from the venue, offers a dine-in menu of pizza, calzones, stromboli and dinners. Try the Chicken Parmesan, Detroit Coney Pie (topped with Dearborn hot dogs and chili!) or Monte Cristo Panini, all of which will keep you full through any show.

Hamlin Pub, 6397 Sashabaw Rd., Clarkston, is another consideration.

Venue: Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, 14900 Metropolitan Pkwy., Sterling Heights

Upcoming shows: Harry Connick, Jr. on 8/1, The Beach Boys & The Temptations on 8/9, Tears for Fears on 9/24

Nearby dining: Great Baraboo Brewing Co., 35905 Utica Rd., Clinton Twp., is about two miles away and offers Baraboo burgers, brewhouse sandwiches, pitas, Baraboo pizza and more. Try the Applewood Bacon Barbeque Burger, Tumbleweed Ranch Burger, Baja Chicken Sandwich or Spinach and Artichoke Pizza.

Also in close proximity is Green Lantern Pizza, 15505 15 Mile Rd., Clinton Twp., which offers Candy Coated Bacon strips and pizza galore about a mile away from Freedom Hill.

Enjoy your meal, but at any venue, don’t forget to get there early if you have lawn seats!
