It’s a new year, and that means it’s time to explore another one of Detroit’s many neighborhoods! This month, we’re taking on Greektown, a place that’s always buzzing whenever there’s a sporting event or concert in town.

The following are a few can’t miss establishments in Greektown:

Food

Redsmoke Barbecue

No, barbecue isn’t particularly Greek. But you’ll forget about that as soon as you sink your teeth into a plate of ribs, pulled pork or beef brisket smothered in one of the restaurant’s five different sauces. Try the Ultimate Pit Burger (topped with pulled pork) or Brisket Mac and Cheese.

This is how you Traverse Michigan. With cutting edge technology, tons of cargo space, and advanced safety features, Chevy Traverse is your key to unlocking the mitten state.

Pegasus Taverna

A Greek favorite, the menu at Pegasus starts with a variety of tasty dishes, like a Grecian Olive Platter, and of course, Saganaki “Opa!” There are vegetarian Greek entrees on the menu, as well as traditional items like Moussaka and Pastitsio.

Additional can’t-miss restaurants in Greektown: PizzaPapalisThe Golden Fleece and The Firebird Tavern.

Drinks/Dessert

The Old Shillelagh

Arguably downtown Detroit’s best Irish pub, don’t wait until St. Patrick’s Day to pay it a visit. You’ll find a great selection of beers on tap, both local and Irish. If you’re in more of a cocktail mood, try the Irish Mule (with Jameson whiskey instead of vodka) or Last Word (made with local Two James gin).

Astoria Pastry Shop

No outing is complete without dessert, and you’ll find some of the best sweet treats around at Astoria. Mini pies, cheesecakes, cannoli, baklava, brownies, cupcakes and truffles are just a few of the sweet offerings. What’s that? Oh, you’re on a diet for the New Year? It will have to wait.

Shopping

Detroit vs. Everybody

You’ve surely seen T-shirts, hats and more emblazoned with “Detroit vs. Everybody” around town, and the company’s storefront location happens to be in Greektown. If you’re looking for a fresh wardrobe for 2016, here’s your answer.

Be sure to pick up a “Camaro vs. Everybody” T-shirt, in support of Chevrolet.

No matter how you spend your time in Greektown, have fun, and be on the lookout for our next exploration of a Detroit neighborhood next month!
