Holiday Markets Are Here To Get You In The Holiday Spirit

Finding the right holiday gift for someone can be quite strenuous at times, especially if you’re shopping at huge shopping malls and big box stores. All of the traffic leading to the mall is backed up. Parking is a mess. And when you finally get to the right store, they might be sold out of what you’re looking for! BAH HUMBUG!

A friendly alternative to the madness of retail shopping is local arts & crafts markets that spring up for the holiday season. In metro Detroit, there’s no shortage of quality artisans, handcrafters and entrepreneurs. Thanks to the support of local organizations, those artists will have places to showcase their wares this holiday shopping season. And you, dear reader, will have the opportunity to take something truly unique home to that special someone this season!

Art for the Holidays @ Detroit Artists Market (Nov. 3rd – Dec. 30th)

Located in Midtown, Detroit Artists Market (DAM) will kick off its annual “Art for the Holidays” market on Friday, November 3. DAM is a non-profit gallery that showcases art from Michigan artists. Art for the Holidays is a chance for these artists to sell their paintings, ceramics, jewelry and more to eager holiday shoppers. And, it’s a chance for those shoppers to find unique gifts for their family and friends.

Holiday Art Market @ Paint Creek Center for Arts (Nov. 11th – Dec. 22nd)

The Rochester-based Paint Creek Center for Arts (PCCA) will be holding its annual Holiday Art Market November 11th through December 22nd. Local artists and finalists from PCCA’s Art & Apples Festival will be selling their products just in time for the holiday shopping season. There will also be a silent auction, an ornament workshop and food/refreshments donated by local bakeries.

Downtown Detroit Markets (Nov. 17th – Jan. 7th)

Kicking off on Friday, November 17th with the Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony, is Downtown Detroit Markets, a new venture from the Quicken Loans family of companies. It aims to bring new consumers to local artists and entrepreneurs for the holiday season. Glass-enclosed, heated booths, which will be rented by 30 selected small businesses, will be situated at three locations: 1001 Woodward Ave., Capitol Park and Cadillac Square. Booth owners will include retailers and food/drink vendors.

Holiday Markets @ Eastern Market (Nov. 26th, Dec. 3rd, 10th, 17th & 19th)

Every year in November and December, Eastern Market in Detroit holds its special Holiday Markets where patrons can shop locally for holiday gifts. There will also be food & drink vendors and Christmas tree vendors for those that can’t seem to let go of the all-natural feel and smell of a real pine tree. Dates and times vary. Detroit Urban Craft Fair (Dec. 1st – 3rd)

This one weekend-only, annual arts & crafts fair will be setting up shop the weekend of December 1st at The Masonic Temple. The 2017 Detroit Urban Craft Fair will house more than 100 artists selling their wares. The crux of the Fair is the handmade nature of the products, ensuring that one-of-a-kind products are given precedence over their mass-produced cousins.
