The year of 2015 has flown by, and we are already just a little more than a week away from Thanksgiving. In addition to displays of holiday spirit, holiday-themed runs are another common occurrence during this time of year. Whether you are an avid runner or looking to try something new, keep the following festive events in mind.

Blitzen the Dotte

This run takes place Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Wyandotte Boat Club. The USA Track and Field–certified event has a 10K run (8:45 a.m.), 5K run/walk (9:00a.m.) and a quarter of a mile-long Little Reindeer Run for children (8:30 a.m.). The race runs through the streets of Downtown Wyandotte just before the Christmas parade, which starts at 10 a.m. Registration is available online along with the course map.

Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot

The 33rd edition of the USATF-certified event on Thanksgiving Day features a 10K, 5K and one mile-long run. The races lead up to America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van. Runners may register online or can download and fill out the PDF, and mail it to the Turkey Trot office. Online and mail-in registration is due by Saturday, Nov. 21, but runners can also register in-person at Cobo Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 25 only.

5th Annual Gobbler Gallop

The run is a couple of days after Thanksgiving, on Saturday, Nov. 28. The event features a one-mile fun run kicking off at 8 a.m. and a 4-mile walk/run starting at 8:30 a.m. The race starts and finishes on Main Street at the corner of Commerce Road, and runs through Downtown Milford and the beautiful Milford Trail. Registration is available online and once again, a parade follows the race. Here is the course map.

This is how you Traverse Michigan. With cutting edge technology, tons of cargo space, and advanced safety features, Chevy Traverse is your key to unlocking the mitten state.

Santa Hat Hustle

The second annual USATF-certified event is on Saturday, Dec. 12 in Hazel Park. The streets will be lined with festive runners/walkers, Santa Claus and more. Everyone is encouraged to bring at least one unwrapped toy to donate. The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m., and there is also a quarter-mile dash for kids and a one-mile long Santa Stroll. Following the festivities is a Santa Pub Crawl from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Registration is available online.

These are just a few of the many holiday-inspired runs taking place between now and the end of the year. Find one you like and participate this holiday season!
