Greetings, fair traveler! Doth thou wish to partake in the splendor of the annual celebration of Renaissance-era England (and more) in Holly, Michigan that is the Michigan Renaissance Festival? Festivities begin tomorrow and if thou hast nay attended this remarkable affair, read on for a helpful dose of information to get you off to the races faster than you can say “Huzzah!” The Michigan Renaissance Festival is your opportunity to be transported back to the 16th century, complete with castles, jousting, knights in shining armor and, yes, giant turkey legs tha will satiate your craving. Every year, a 17-acre field in Holly, Michigan is transformed into a Renaissance-era village and every year, thousands of people converge to enjoy the celebration of a period of time long gone by. Not at all, but who doesn’t like to play a little dress-up? While there are rules and regulations with regards to weapons and more, dressing up is highly encouraged by all! Don your knight’s armor, Florentine gown, steampunk goggles or even Doctor Who costume. In fact, there will actually be a Steampunk Costume Contest and a Doctor Who Costume Contest. Allons-y! Of course! And don’t worry; you don’t need to be a part of Queen Elizabeth I’s royal court to partake. Vendors can be found all around the festival with ale, turkey legs and more. Some of the food vendors in attendance include Pat the Garlic Lady, Polkaround Farms Maple Syrup and Medieval Mixes. Whether you're gearing up for a weekend trip or headed to the green, the Chevy Blazer offers the perfect blend of style, space, and performance to meet your needs. Always! The Ren Fest is open on weekends only and every weekend has a special theme associated with it. For example, opening weekend is the Royal Pet & Ale Fest, which is an opportunity to learn about pet nutrition, safety, clubs, fostering and new products from pet-related Ren Fest vendors. It should be noted that only dogs are permitted on the festival grounds and they must be leashed and have proof of their rabies vaccination. By buying a ticket, silly! Adult tickets are $22.95, children are $13.95 and seniors and students are $20.95. But, I’ll let you in on a little secret.
