The calendar is already moving to mid-December (we know, we can’t believe it either), which means that Hanukkah will beginning soon. In fact, it begins this week, and we thought it would be the perfect time to highlight some of the area’s best kosher and kosher-friendly food destinations. From Matzo Ball soup to Challah bread and even more contemporary kosher options, these four metro Detroit kosher-friendly restaurants will satisfy the whole family this holiday season.

Stage Deli

Since 1962, Stage Deli in West Bloomfield has been providing fine Jewish food to the area. The delicatessen has a wide-ranging menu featuring special soups, sandwiches, salads, and all-day breakfast. Their hot pastrami or brisket sandwich are always popular choices, but if you need to feed a large group, their Mish Mash soup is comprised of matzo ball, kreplach, rice, noodles, carrots, and broth. Stage Deli also offers an overnight deli where you can order your favorite deli items and have them delivered to you overnight.

Zeman’s Kosher Bakery

The artisan baked goods store in Oak Park has been satisfying taste buds since 1927, making it the longest standing Kosher bakery in metro Detroit. They offer everything from classic rye to their famous seven layer cake that is sure to satisfy at any family gathering. Make sure to check out their Facebook page where they regularly post images of their new desserts, like their Chanukah donuts. Yum!

Kravings

Located in Oak Park, Kravings is your home to a wide range of food that is certified kosher by Star-K. Their kosher menu is contemporary and extensive as it includes deli sandwiches, burgers, chicken sandwiches, and surprisingly, sushi. The sushi options include a build-a-roll, along with special vegetable, fish, or tempura rolls. The restaurant also offers takeout on select items and a catering menu for your next party.

Star Deli

Soup can make even the coldest of winter days seem a little warmer, and Star Deli’s homemade Matzo Ball and Kreplach soup can certainly do the trick. Offered in pint and quart sizes, you and your family will be able to enjoy some warmth on a cold winter day. They also offer freshly baked Challah bread to go perfectly with any meal.

*Please note that not all establishments are 100% Kosher.
