By: Scott Davis | September 21, 2018

Picking apples not only has health benefits, but it is the perfect activity to experience with the whole family. It’s the quintessential time of the year for Metro Detroiters to head outside, get some fresh air and pick some fresh apples. Here are five apple orchards we think you should check out over the upcoming autumn months.

Spicer Orchards

Fenton’s Spicer Orchards features everything from a winery, to a farm market, and of course, a cider mill and apple picking. You’ll be able to pick your own MacIntosh, Gala, and Blondee apples along with red raspberries throughout the upcoming months. Be sure to check out the orchard’s website for more information on events and activities such as wagon rides, wine tasting, scenic hayrides, and much more!

Wiard’s Cider Miller and Apple Orchard

Founded in 1837, Wiard’s Cider Miller and Apple Orchard has been providing Metro Detroit families with some of the best apple picking and cider around. The Ypsilanti cider mill features Fuji, Cameo, Ruby Jon, and more unique apples throughout the season. The orchard also has an U-Pick pumpkin patch, just in time for October.

Dexter Cider Mill

Afternoons with the family don’t get much better than at Dexter Cider Mill. For over 120 years, the Dexter Cider Mill has provided fresh apples along with delicious homemade options such as apple nut bread, pie, strudel, butter, and much more. For fans of hard cider, Dexter Cider Mill will also be showcasing its own exclusive hard cider throughout the fall months!

Miller’s Big Red Apple Orchard

For over 50 years, families have been visiting Miller’s Big Red Apple Orchard as part of their fall tradition. You can find the large list of apples you can pick now through October here. Your family can enjoy a nice picnic, petting farm, corn maze, hayride, and more this fall at Miller’s Big Red Apple Orchard.

Long Family Orchard & Farm

Long Family Orchard & Farm’s apple picking is back up and running, which is great news for anyone who enjoys fresh and juicy apples. The orchard offers everything from Honey Crisp, to Golden Delicious, to empire, to northern spy, and more! Be sure to check the orchard’s Facebook page to see when things will re-open for the fall months.
