Patio Season is here!  After the long months of winter hibernation there is nothing better than eating (and drinking) outside while soaking up a healthy dose of Vitamin D.  Whether it is a patio right off Main Street or a cozy little garden oasis, the outdoor setting is always good for the soul.  The nice thing about the ever changing weather in the Great Lake State is that most patios come equipped to handle a variety of weather conditions.  From heaters to umbrellas, restaurant owners have got you covered, so the most committed al fresco eaters can enjoy every possible minute on the patio of their choice.

Check out this list of prime outdoor dining scenes and try to hit them all this summer!

Cheli’s Chili – Detroit

Cheli’s rooftop deck is the spot to be during Tigers games (unless you’re actually at the game, that is).  With a view of Comerica Park, big screens, great drink specials and Cheli’s grandmother’s delicious chili on the menu, you can’t help having a blast.  And when firework season starts (after Tigers games, beginning in mid-May) the smart people who are at Cheli’s will have a front row seat for the show.  For more information, visit www.chelischilibar.com.

The Silverado is the truck that works as hard as you do.

Rosie O’Grady’s – Ferndale

This youth-driven Irish pub offers one of the best patios in downtown Ferndale.  There is a large covered patio with its own bar and walls that open up to turn the space into an extension of the outdoors.  There are two uncovered patios, one in front and one in back.  The front patio is right off 9 mile and keeps you incorporated with the street scene (and lets you do some great people watching). On the other hand, the back patio offers a bit more privacy along with heaters for the cold and umbrellas for the sun or spring showers. For more information, visit www.4rosieogradys.com.

Palio – Ann Arbor

With a cute sidewalk patio right off Main Street and a relaxing rooftop patio, Palio offers great food and a great atmosphere.  The rooftop patio offers a cozy setting with twinkling lights and festive greenery. The restaurant has a pesto sauce that is to die for and Sangria that will keep you coming back for more.  Whether it is upstairs or down on Main Street, the patios at Palio will not disappoint.  For more information, visit www.paliorestaurant.com.

Amici’s  – Berkely

Not only does Amici’s have great pizza and martinis, but their patio is truly an extension of their “living room” style dining that you can find inside.  The cozy outdoor garden of a patio is reminiscent of one you might find at your own house.  Amici’s has definitely succeeded in creating a home-away-from-home effect and you will feel so at ease, you might have a hard time leaving.  For more information, visit www.amicispizza.com.

Crave Lounge – Dearborn

With some of the best sushi and seafood in the Metro Detroit area, you won’t be sorry when you sit down in the Crave outdoor lounge.  From sushi rolls to Sea Bass, the meals don’t disappoint and neither do the drinks.  For more information, visit www.cravelounge.com.

Bacco Ristorante – Southfield

Great Italian food in Italy? Not quite, but you might feel like you’re in Italy when you relax on Bacco’s outdoor patio.  Cozy lighting and landscaping with a Tuscan feel makes the food taste even better than it already is.  Be sure to arrive hungry.  The upscale menu has so many delicious options, it will be hard to choose just one.  For more information, visit www.baccoristorante.com.

Streetside Seafood – Birmingham

Don’t miss out on one of Birmingham’s best places for al fresco dining.  Streetside Seafood has a charming outdoor patio made cozy by flower boxes and shrubbery.  In addition to their great outdoor atmosphere, Streetside offers delicious seafood from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans as well as more local catch from Midwest lakes and streams.  They can back up their reputation too.  The Zagat Survey named Streetside Seafood in America’s Top Restaurants of 2011.  For more information, visit www.streetsideseafood.com.

The Pound! Bar & Grill – Brighton

Check out the rooftop patio at The Pound! in Brighton which has its own bar and televisions along with a view of Brighton’s Mill Pond.  A great place to enjoy some snacks and beverages this summer, The Pound! is sure to offer one of the coolest outdoor patios in downtown Brighton.  For more information, visit www.thepoundbar.com.

Monterrey Cantina – Royal Oak

Margaritas on the patio?  Now you’re talking!  This summer, make sure you don’t miss out on the tasty grub and killer drinks on the patio at Monterrey Cantina in Royal Oak.  The festive patio mirrors the lively interior creating a great atmosphere both indoors and out.  We recommend trying the Rosita Burrito!  For more information, visit www.allmenus.com.

Nice weather is often hard to come by in the great state of Michigan. So, take advantage of the beautiful weather while you can and test out some new patios!
