Well, there are some people who may not agree. Metro Detroit’s cover and tribute band scene is strong and offers fans of all sorts of bands and genres the opportunity to experience their favorite music in a whole new light. So, whether you missed your favorite band’s last tour or you want to relive some of your favorite classics, here are five local cover bands with shows in the near future.
The iconic rock band, Grateful Dead, lives on in southeast Michigan through the cover band Dead Again. Detroit’s premier Grateful Dead tribute act continues the music of the 1960s and 1970s rock band and influences a new generation of rock fans in metro Detroit. Green Dads, the Green Day cover band in metro Detroit, comprises of dads rocking out Green Day songs (hints the name). They’ll hit the stage at PJ’s Lager House in Detroit on Friday, January 26 and perform Green Day’s classic album, “Dookie,” in its entirety. With hits like Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, and When I Come Around, it’s sure to be a rocking time.
Bringing the soul back to Motown, Mainstreet Soul gives concertgoers the opportunity to hear their favorite soul jams from every decade. From Stevie Wonder to Bruno Mars, the 10-piece band will have you movin’ and groovin’ all night long. The band will perform at the Axis Lounge on Saturday, January 20, which will be their only public event for a while, so be sure not to miss it!

One of the biggest shows in metro Detroit every month is the Mega 80’s show at the Magic Bag. Covering all of your favorite 80’s pop and rock songs, the show will transport you back to raddest decade of them all. The Magic Bag will host two shows this month, Saturday, January 13 and Saturday, January 27, so grab your neon colored windbreaker and high waisted jeans and catch a show this month!
Metro Detroit Journey fans don’t have to stop believin.’ They can still hear their favorite Journey songs as Captured Detroit recaptures the classic rock sound of one of the most iconic bands in music history. Take a trip down memory lane as they play hits like Any Way You Want It and Faithfully. The tribute band will perform at Youngers Irish Tavern in Romeo on Saturday, February 3.
