The Detroit area has had a huge influence on the music world as we know it today. We are the birthplace of the Motown Sound – yeah, that was us (thanks, Berry Gordy). Although the people of Detroit did not discover jazz music, there is certainly a heavy dose of it in the city and in the metropolitan area. Luckily for us, there are jazz clubs all over the place! Below are several options for enjoying jazz music in the area.

Cliff Bell’s

One of Detroit’s more well-known jazz clubs, Cliff Bell’s always has a jam-packed schedule. The Marcus Elliot Quartet performs there every Tuesday, and many other jazz groups and musicians play there regularly. Cover charges are surprisingly cheap, with some shows offering free admittance!

Baker’s Keyboard Lounge

Known as the “World’s Oldest Jazz Club,” Baker’s is another staple in the Detroit jazz and blues music scene. Baker’s has a creative piano-designed bar, and generally has live performances six nights a week. OGD, 313 The Live Experience and B Williams Experiment are regular performers here.

Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe

Opened in 2008, the Dirty Dog Jazz Café of Grosse Pointe is a premier destination for jazz music and great cuisine. Check out Tuesday Nights with the Charles Boles Quartet during dinner hours, or one of the many other upcoming shows. In addition, the Dirty Dog is a great place to host your private event, with its Boardroom available for rent.

How do you make a truck your own? We're redefining what it means to drive a pickup. With luxurious comfort, a world-class entertainment system, and a 6-position Multi-Flex Tailgate, Silverado is the change you've been waiting for.

Goodnite Gracie

Goodnite Gracie is part of D’Amato’s Italian Restaurant in Royal Oak. It offers food, martinis and hand-crafted cocktails. Catch live entertainment Tuesday through Saturday with various acoustic and jazz music acts. There is also an open mic night on Wednesdays.

The presence of jazz music is strong in Detroit. The above jazz clubs offer live entertainment, great food and tasty drinks, and all are worth checking out.
