June is upon us, and there are more than enough happenings to satisfy the interests of almost everybody around these here metro Detroit parts. With several events taking place between now and the end of the month in southeast Michigan, I have chosen a few to highlight.
Peacefest Art and Music Festival
This festival takes place on June 4 and June 5 at the L.A. Café in Waterford. It features more than 120 artists and 12 bands, including featured artist Mark Arminski. The good news is that the event is completely free! Food will be available for purchase as well.
Vernors 150th Anniversary Party
Detroit-based beverage company Vernors celebrates its 150th year of existence, with a week of events beginning on June 5 and ending on June 11! Festivities include a Vernors Exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum, a bus tour, a bar crawl and of course, the big party (also at the museum) on June 11! The party features poker, movies, a presentation on the company’s history, Vernors floats and more.
Additionally throughout the week, several local restaurants will offer unique menu items featuring Vernors flavors.
Taste of Dearborn
Nearly 30 Dearborn eateries will participate in Taste of Dearborn on June 15, put on by the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce. The event features wine-tasting, great food, jazz entertainment and cocktails. Andiamo-Dearborn, Brome Burgers & Shakes, Dearborn Brewing and several other restaurants will be present. Shuttles to participating restaurants will also be available.
GM River Days
General Motors brings back its River Days festivities for 2016! The weekend-long event begins on June 24 and continues through June 26. Guests can look forward to yoga on the Detroit River, zip line rides, the Tuskegee Air Show, street performers, boat tours and other events. Live music is also involved, including performances by Patti LaBelle and Laith Al-Saadi. The admission fee is a mere $3.
Brews, Views and ‘Ques
After the GM River Days event is over, head back down to Roostertail along the Detroit Riverfront for Brews, Views and ‘Ques on June 27. The event features beer-tasting, food trucks from around the city, and special limited-release beers. Attendees will also get the chance to speak with company representatives and brewers. This is an ideal location to watch the Downtown Detroit fireworks, which happen around 9:48 p.m. that day.
