Kick it Up a Notch with These Spicy Salads

If you’re in the mood for a meal with a little spice — a little pizzazz — a salad might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But, there are actually some great salads in the area that offer the kick you’re looking for condensed into a relatively healthy option. So grab your silverware and a glass of water and see why these five spicy salads in metro Detroit pack a peppery punch.

Lunchtime Global

Located in the First National Building in downtown Detroit, Lunchtime Global offers a wide range of salads to check out on your lunch break.. Their Thai salad features cucumber, tomato, celery, sauteed mushrooms, carrots, red pepper, and ginger vinaigrette. If you want more flavor to your salad, check out the Southwestern salad which has tomato, avocado, bacon, cheddar, tortilla chips, and their cilantro-lime vinaigrette.

Anita’s Kitchen

Anita’s Kitchen in downtown Ferndale is simply one of the finest Lebanese restaurants in the area. They offer everything from pita sandwiches, shish kebobs, mezza, and some unique salads. Their Fattoush salad features a tangy sumac dressing that is sure to add some flavor to your meal. You can also add chicken shawarma to any salad if you are feeling more adventurous.  

Grand Trunk Pub

The popular 1900s-era railway station turned bar, Grand Trunk Pub, is known for their craft beer selection, but they have some unique food options too. Their extensive menu includes some creative salad options, but it’s their Southwest Chicken salad that will satisfy your spicy needs. It features spiced black beans, roasted red peppers, fresh cilantro guacamole, and their Grand Trunk Salsa.

The Inn Season Cafe

The Inn Season Cafe has been giving metro Detroiters healthy, wholesome food for over 35 years. They have plenty of gluten and sugar-free options, and that includes their salads. While none of their options are terrible spicy, if you’re looking for a salad that is both gluten and sugar-free while not sacrificing flavor, check out their Brown Rice salad. It’s tossed with brown rice,  sweet red peppers, scallion, cucumber, celery, carrot, pecans, currants, fresh herbs, garlic, lemon, and olive oil.

Beyond Juicery

You might head to Beyond Juicery in downtown Detroit for some healthy and delicious smoothies, but they also create some great lunch food options. While they only have the Kale salad on the menu, they do offer a build your own salad. If you want to go the spicy route, you can add banana peppers, jalapenos, spicy asparagus, or Spicy Cilantro Sauce to your salad.
