Kick-Start a New Passion with Spring & Summer Classes in the D

As we get older, our drive to learn new things never wanes — not completely. We might get used to the humdrum of our daily grind with respect to our daily jobs and other responsibilities, but the joy people get from learning something new, especially something they’re already interested in, never goes away. Whatever your reason to for wanting to learn something, there’s no shortage of courses offered this summer in metro Detroit.

Art

For the artistically inclined, there is no greater feeling than not only finishing a piece, but learning something new from it. All artists strive to make their latest work their greatest work. In metro Detroit there are plenty of courses offered in the summer, such as College for Creative Studies’ Precollege Summer Experience, a three-week program that will prepare students for an art college career. For those not preparing for college, CCS has many courses for kids and adults, too. The Detroit Institute of Arts also holds classes and workshops on a rotating basis.

Acting

Whether you think you’re made for the stage or for film, there are plenty of acting classes at several acting studios in metro Detroit. Summer classes at the Michigan Actor’s Studio in Ferndale begin June 12 and The Actor’s Workshop in Madison Heights has four courses on topics like scene study and character development beginning late June.

Foreign Language

Whether you’re looking to sharpen up the Spanish you learned in grade school or looking to learn a new language entirely, metro Detroit is a unique area where many languages are spoken daily. Studio Espanol in Birmingham is offering a conversational Spanish course for beginners, starting June 14 and the French Institute of Michigan in Bloomfield Hills has tons of French language courses ranging from beginner to expert level classes.

For you metro Detroit shutterbugs and shutterbugs-to-be, there are some great, local classes and workshops available to you. Woodward Camera in Birmingham has courses for beginners, courses for shooting better photos on a DSLR and more. If you’re looking for something with a less of a commitment, Photo Sensei in Detroit holds daily (and nightly) photo tours of the city.
