Kids on Spring Break: The Fun Is Here in Metro Detroit

By: Michael Fossbakk | March 21, 2018

It’s that special time of year. Despite the usual fluctuations in weather that Michigan is known for, as of last week, spring is officially here! What’s more is that Easter is this weekend. For many kids, that means a whole week off from school and that means a whole week of uninterrupted fun!

For many parents, however, spring break can throw a wrench in their everyday schedule. With the kids home from school for a week, you might be wondering what you can do to not only keep them entertained but make this spring break a blast!

Don’t be fooled into thinking a trip to someplace with sunshine, palm trees and a talking mouse is the only way to do spring break right. You can find all the fun and entertainment you need right here in metro Detroit!

Get Them Off the Couch

If your kid is thinking they can stay home all week, playing games and watching TV, they have another think coming. Get them off the couch, the computer or whatever is keeping them stationary, and take them to one of these spots for some intense fun!

  • Troy Gymnastics has tons of cool programs for kids, like dance classes and ninja warrior training! Plus, they have day camps for the kids to attend, which is perfect for spring break.
  • The Outdoor Adventure Center brings “up north” to downtown Detroit. Learn about Michigan wildlife, the ecosystem and more, all without leaving Detroit.
  • AirTime Trampoline & Game Park has five locations across metro Detroit and each is equipped with trampolines, basketball hoops, obstacle courses, jungle gyms and more.
  • Warren Community Center Indoor Water Park has all kinds of aquatic fun! Water slides, water guns, beach balls, games and more.

Open Their Mind

Just because they’re taking a break from classes for a week doesn’t mean all learning has to stop. Show them that learning doesn’t have to be all books and homework. Take them to a science center or museum, like the ones below.

  • Michigan Science Center puts STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) at, well, the center!
  • Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum – it’s right there in the name. Take your kids here for tons of hands-on activities that will teach them scientific concepts and more.

  • Mad Science was born out of two brothers’ passion for showing kids the magic of science. That passion lives in the Mad Scientists of Mad Science of Detroit.

Just Plain Old Fun

After all the exercise and learning, it’s nice to take some time to just have fun.

  • Paradise Park is full of mini golf, go-karts, laser tag and more.
  • Detroit Kid City is where a kid can learn the ins and outs of a city with a kid-sized model of Detroit.
