Labor Day traditionally marks the end of summer and the beginning of the fall season. School starts up again, the weather begins to cool, and the NFL season is just around the corner. Luckily for you, Detroit has plenty of fun events over the holiday weekend for you to celebrate the last remaining days of summer.

So before you trade in your shorts and t-shirts for jeans and hoodies, here are five events happening in Detroit over the Labor Day weekend.

Arts, Beats, & Eats

Arguably the most popular and beloved Labor Day event in Detroit, Arts, Beats, & Eats is the perfect festival to end the summer. Located in downtown Royal Oak, thousands of people will flood the streets to see local artists, musicians, and restaurants in one place. This year’s festival will have over 200 performances on nine stages, the Juried Arts Show, and of course the very best eats in the Metro Detroit area.

Detroit Jazz Festival

The 37th annual Detroit Jazz Festival returns to Detroit for another Labor Day weekend full of free jazz performances. Over 100 of the world’s most talented jazz performers will hit the stages spreading across Detroit from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius. There will also be educational activities for adults and children, fireworks, late-night jam sessions, and opportunities to meet jazz artists from around the world.

The Silverado is the truck that works as hard as you do.

Michigan State Fair

The Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair features plenty of family fun activities over the holiday weekend. With an Equestrian Pavilion, a Midway Carnival, livestock, a beer garden, and so much more, there is sure to be something for everyone in your family to enjoy.

Hamtramck Labor Day Festival

Located in downtown Hamtramck on Main Street, the 37th annual Hamtramck Labor Day Fair returns for another year of festival fun. The three day celebration features yacht races down Jos. Campau, the Golab-K 5K run, Fowling in the streets, carnival rides, and a lot more.

Michigan Peach Festival

Since it began in 1931, the Michigan Peach Festival in Romeo has become one of southeast Michigan’s most beloved traditions. The festival features multiple parades, a craft show, car shows, and fun run/5K/10K races. The annual Peach Queen winner will also be making her appearance at the festival, which is a rich tradition in the Romeo community.

These are just a few of the festivals happening in the Detroit communities over the Labor Day weekend, so whether you’re hitting up these or other festivals, be sure to enjoy the last seconds of summer before the leaves start to change.
