Did you know drinking beer in moderation can be good for you? The key word there, obviously,  is “moderation.” If you’re someone that works out on a regular basis and wants a delicious way to rehydrate and refuel a bit after getting a good cardio workout in, a cold one might be the way to go.

One of the most classic forms of cardio exercise is to go for a run and, believe it or not, a celebratory beer at the end of a race isn’t just a good consolation prize. Many beers are primarily water, contain ethanol (which lowers “bad” cholesterol and increases “good” cholesterol), receive approximately a third of the calories from carbs and more. So, when you’re crossing the finish line at one of this year’s several holiday runs, don’t be hesitant to imbibe.

For many, a good race (or running, in general) can provide a rush of adrenaline that gets people hooked on the popular exercise. If running is in your blood, you might want to check out these holiday runs coming up in metro Detroit:

After you’ve crossed the finish line and are looking for a good way to celebrate and refuel, a cold pint might be the way to go. These craft beers probably won’t be waiting for you at the end of the race, but Michigan is ripe with craft breweries and ‘tis the season of winter ales. Just check out these winter brews from some local breweries:

Are you gearing up for a 5K, 10K or even a marathon? If you’re a craft beer fan, keep those Michigan winter beers in mind for when you’re celebrating with your fellow runners. And, even if you’re not participating in a race, a cold Michigan beer is sure to lift your holiday spirits.
