Anyone who has taken a walk through a big city has no doubt come across a street band at least once in their lifetime. These musicians put on shows for people every day in their local neighborhoods, but on July 15 and 16, they will converge on Detroit for a two-day premier street band festival.

Crash Detroit has held events for the past two years, celebrating the art of street band performances by highlighting local street bands, as well as those from other parts of the country. This year, festival goers will be treated to performances from bands such as Detroit Party Marching Band, Black Bear Combo from Chicago, Ill., Jefferson Street Parade Band from Bloomington, Ind. and Black Sheep Ensemble from Atlanta, Ga.

The first day of the festival, July 15, will consist of spontaneous performances at random businesses in Detroit. There isn’t a venue listing or schedule available on the website — Crash Detroit recommends following them on Twitter and Facebook to find out where the performances will be held. Think of it like an exclusive pop-up band performance that only die-hard street band fans will know about.

Day two of the festival will be a more open, family-friendly affair in Roosevelt Park with live street band performances all day, plus visual & performing art and food.
