Attention, craft beer lovers! June is here and with it comes the seasonal summer releases of craft beer from your favorite local brewing companies. While Michigan winters can be brutal yet beautiful, so too are Michigan summers. Temperatures sometimes get close to, or even break, 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the perfect excuse to reach for a nice summer brew from your favorite craft brewers. Luckily, Michigan is a state with quite the craft beer community and these summer brews are ready to quench your thirst all summer long.

Velvet Hammer from Arbor Brewing Company

While some craft beers get bottled and sold to the masses at stores across the country, Velvet Hammer from Arbor Brewing Company is only available at the company’s Corner Brewery microbrewery in Ypsilanti. It is a Belgian Dubbel-style base beer aged in a gueuze-inoculated oak cask for a year and then bottle conditioned. Because of this cask aging process, each new vintage (released on the first Saturday in June) has a slightly different flavor since the oak of the casks age and mature.

Verano from Wolverine State Brewing Company

Verano is a 4.3%, 15 IBU, Mexican-style amber lager from Wolverine State Brewing Company in Ann Arbor. The taste is described by its brewers as an “easy-drinking, flavorful and refreshing sip of summer.” It has a European malt texture and is best enjoyed with a lime. You can enjoy this taste of summer from June through August.

Summer Brew from Motor City Brewing Works

The Summer Brew from Motor City Brewing Works, located on West Canfield in Detroit, is a 7.2%, 19 IBU, American-style wheat beer with a deep orange color, smooth, malty texture and a hint of citrus flavor. It’s available from June through the end of September in ½ BBL Sankey-style kegs, a 24-pack 12 fl.oz. bottles or a 6-pack of 12 fl.oz. bottles.
