Let’s face it: the official first day of spring may be March 20, but after having mild to warm weather the last couple of weeks, it’s tough not to feel like spring has already somewhat sprung. What better way to celebrate the end of winter than with a few events that will get you out of the house to sample some tasty food and drinks and dance the night away? This March, these metro Detroit events will put the spring in your step.
Kicking things off with a bang is the Hamtramck Music Festival, which happens the first weekend of March every year. This year, March 2-5 are the dates to remember if you want to check out 180 bands across 22 venues and three nights. On Sunday, March 5 there will be a record store brunch. Wristbands are $10 and can be purchased at participating stores, like Cafe 1923, Detroit Threads, Dearborn music and many more. For a full list of stores, click here, or buy your wristband online here.
If blues is more your kind of jam, then get your tickets to the 11th Annual Motor City Blues Festival at the Fox Theatre. Musicians you can expect to hear include Sir Charles Jones, Willie Clayton, Bigg Robb, Bishop Bullwinkle, Shirley Brown and TK Soul.
Sip, Savor, Stomp is a wine-lover’s dream. March 25 at Royal Oak Farmers Market is where you’ll want to be if you want to sample more than 300 wines from across the world. If that’s not enough, artisan cheeses, chocolates, coffees and wine-inspired food from local restaurants will be available. The fun doesn’t stop there as live music will be played all night long. Plus, if there’s a wine (or five) you really love, you’ll be able to purchase it by the bottle or case via Papa Joe’s Gourmet Market.

Who knew you could drink whiskey and support a good cause at the same time? The folks at the Luella M. Harden Foundation, that’s who. Closing out the month of March is the third annual Whiskey Experience at Eastern Market on March 31. This is your opportunity to taste the finer side of whiskey all while bumping shoulders with industry experts. As mentioned, Whiskey Experience benefits the Luella M. Harden Foundation, a local organization that raises money for college scholarships as well as contributions to the Leukemia Society.
