Can you believe it’s already March? Time flies when you’re having fun in the Motor City! With (hopefully) the worst of the winter weather behind us, this month we can look forward to plenty of fun events, including St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and the first day of spring.
Grab a friend or two and check out some of the following social events in southeast Michigan this month:
Empty Bowls Detroit
Start the month off on a charitable note and head to Shed 5 at Eastern Market on Friday, March 4 for a fundraiser to benefit Cass Community Social Services.
Enjoy a bowl of soup, bread and dessert, and take your bowl home to remind yourself that someone else’s bowl is always empty. Local restaurants will donate soup to the 21 and up event, including Traffic Jam and Snug, Grey Ghost, La Feria and more.
Tickets cost $30 in advance or $40 at the door.
Irish Taste Fest
Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day early at the Royal Oak Farmers Market! Sample Irish whiskey, beer, cider, cocktails and food on Saturday, March 5. You’ll find the featured whiskey list and beer list online.
The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and tickets cost $15 (including three sample tickets).
Motor City Blues Festival
Nothing gets you out of a winter funk and into thoughts of spring like dancing, right? Groove the night away at the 10th Annual Motor City Blues Festival on Saturday, March 19. Held at the Fox Theatre, acts include Sir Charles Jones, Bobby Rush, TK Soul, Theodis Ealey, Bigg Robb and Shirley Brown.
The festival starts at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $48 to $78.50.
Wine and Cheese Pairing
Visit Tom’s Oyster Bar in Royal Oak on Thursday, March 24 for a sophisticated wine and cheese-pairing event! Four wines will be selected by sommelier Chris Brock and beverage manager Brian Arnold and paired with cheeses chosen by executive chef Norman Fenton.
Wines included in the tasting include Chateau La Riviere Sauternes, Tom Gore Chardonnay, Caparzo Sangiovese and Zaca Mesa Syrah.
There are two seatings for the event, at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and both cost $26.
