I’ll be honest; I am a meat-eater. Vegetarian or vegan dishes do not generally appeal to me in the slightest. With that said, I have compiled a list of five meatless dishes that even the most carnivorous creatures would be tempted to try. I won’t keep you waiting…

Om Café

Om Café has been serving creative and delicious vegetarian cuisine to the Ferndale community since 1985.

Must-try dish: General Tso Dinner. The General Tso dish features a house-made sauce, which includes sweet, spicy and salty flavors. The dish incorporates ginger, tamari and toasted sesame oil, and is tossed with sautéed broccoli, Cremini mushrooms and diced organic tofu. It is served with organic brown rice.

Detroit Vegan Soul

Detroit Vegan Soul, as you may have guessed, is a soul food restaurant serving 100 percent vegan dishes. It is located in Detroit’s West Village.

Explore Metro Detroit in a vehicle built for discovery. Chevy Equinox combines sleek looks, maximum comfort and cutting edge entertainment to navigate your city in style.

Must-try dish: “Catfish” Tofu. The meal consists of cornmeal-battered tofu, a medley of broccoli and corn, redskin potatoes and onions. The dish is gluten free and a great catfish substitute!

Seva

With locations in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Seva has been creating quality vegetarian cuisine since 1973.

Must-try dish:  Goat Cheese Ravioli. Consisting of goat-cheese filled ravioli (obviously), char-grilled asparagus and pistachio lemon-sage sauce, and served with garlic bread. I’m ready to switch to team vegetarian one time for this dish.

The Clean Plate

Shelby Township’s The Clean Plate offers a fast and casual dining experience and uses organic ingredients and local produce.

Must-try dish: A.B.L.T. sandwich. Avalon bread topped with avocado, Shiitake mushroom, lettuce, tomato and garlic aioli. The Shiitake mushrooms act as the “bacon” in a traditional BLT sandwich. It is served with coleslaw and a pickle spear.

GreenSpace Cafe

The second Ferndale joint to make the list, Green Space is an artisanal plant-based restaurant and craft cocktail bar.

Must-try dish: Tamale Pie. Organic white masa layered with corn, tomato, red onion, red bell peppers, cilantro, black beans and enchilada sauce is what makes up this tasty dish. It’s served with cashew sour cream and avocado!

Even if you won’t be converting to a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle in the near future, these are fantastic options for a “Meatless Monday” (or any day of the week). For you full-time vegetarians and vegans, dinner is ready!
