If you have school-aged children, you know that this week is mid-winter break from southeast Michigan schools. While surely you love having your little ones at home all week, no one wants them sitting in front of the TV or playing on an iPad for five days straight.
Here are a few ways to enjoy educational fun with your children this week:
Detroit’s Michigan Science Center offers themed camps, including Mid-Winter Break Camp, which runs today through Friday, Feb. 19. First through third graders can take part in Mechano-Me!, a robotic technology camp, while Robot Task Force is for fourth through eighth students to learn about robots used during natural disasters.
Camp registration costs $55 per day, and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

With locations in Birmingham and Grosse Pointe Park, Robot Garage will host Robot Camp for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade. Campers will build and play with robots during this one-day camp, dates of which vary by location.
Another option is MineCraft Camp, where children learn different challenges in the game MineCraft. Both camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost $75 per day.
Celebrate National Engineering Week at this Ann Arbor museum now through Friday, Feb. 19! Bring your children to design and build, create chemical experiments, try out circuits and more.
All activities are included with the price of museum admission, which costs $12 for adults and children, or $5 after 5 p.m. on Thursdays.
Pretend you and your little ones are taking a trip somewhere warm, without the cost of hotel and airfare! The Auburn Hills aquarium holds more than 5,000 sea creatures, including sharks, seahorses, turtles, jellyfish and more.
Purchase your tickets online to snag an exclusive online rate, and be sure to plan a trip after break once the new CLAWS! exhibit opens to the public on Monday, Feb. 22.
With the all of these fun (and educational!) events to choose from, you certainly won’t hear your children utter, “I’m bored!” over mid-winter break. Have fun!
