One of pop culture’s most iconic monsters takes center stage at Penn Theatre’s showing of the 1931 classic “Frankenstein.” The classic imagining of the Mary Shelley novel is regarded as one of Universal’s best monster films. “Frankenstein” is the first film part of Penn Theatre’s Shock-tober Thursday night series which includes “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken,” “Dracula,” and “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.”
The Redford Theatre is known for showing some of the most classic films of all-time, and with the live organ music accompanying many of the films, it is a truly remarkable way of experiencing a movie. You can experience one of the greatest silent films of all-time, 1925’s“The Phantom of the Opera,” the way it was meant to with live organ music. Other screenings taking place at the Redford Theatre include “Rosemary’s Baby,” “Young Frankenstein,” and “Attack of the Monsters.”
Ann Arbor’s Michigan Theater and State Theater are constantly showing the newest indie hits along with some special screenings of classic movies. One of those special screenings includes the 1922 silent film “Nosferatu” with a special live organ accompaniment performance by Stephen Warner. Other haunted screenings include “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Hocus Pocus,” “Young Frankenstein,” and “Frankenweenie.”

Perhaps the most quintessential midnight movie of all-time, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will screen at midnight at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak on Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27. The classic musical starring Tim Curry might be more fun than scary, but is nevertheless a must-watch during the Halloween season. The Main Art Theatre will also be showing “Evil Dead 2”, “Bubba Ho-Tep”, and “The Thing” throughout October.
