Picture this: We open on an establishing shot of Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. The sun is shining. The parking lot is filling up quickly. Comic book fans clamor to get inside as soon as possible. They’re here for one thing: to celebrate their love of comic books and pop culture with like-minded fans. It comes but once a year. It’s Motor City Comic Con.

Sorry. I sort of got lost in a daydream. But it’s true. Motor City Comic Con starts today! For three days (May 18-20), the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi will serve as a meeting ground for local vigilantes, boy wonders, wonder girls and more. Motor City Comic Con is southeast Michigan’s premiere comic book convention and it’s always a treat.

Walk the rows of artists’ tables, vendors’ booths and more and you’ll find all kinds of things you’d expect and even more you wouldn’t. One moment, you may be holding an old toy you used to have when you were a kid. The next moment you might see your Hollywood crush walk on by as they head to their booth.

This year promises a star-studded weekend whether you’re a fan of movies, TV shows, comic books or all of the above! Comic book fans can expect to see legendary artist Neal Adams (Green Lantern/Green Arrow, Avengers, Deadman), Frank Quitely (X-Men, All-Star Superman, Batman & Robin), Marc Andreyko (Manhunter, Torso, Love is Love), K Lynn Smith (Plume, Hope), Katie Cook (Gronk: A Monster’s Story, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) and more.

How do you make a truck your own? We're redefining what it means to drive a pickup. With luxurious comfort, a world-class entertainment system, and a 6-position Multi-Flex Tailgate, Silverado is the change you've been waiting for.

On the film and television side of things, you can expect to see Kirk Acevedo (Band of Brothers, Fringe, Arrow), Ryan Hurst (Remember the Titans, Sons of Anarchy), Tom Welling (Smallville, Lucifer), Summer Glau (Firefly, Serenity), Detroit native and legendary voice actor Rob Paulsen (Pinky and the Brain, Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius), Stephen Amell (Arrow, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) and many more.

If you’re not interested in any of those names, you might be interested in the many wares you can find in every aisle. Pop culture t-shirts, action figures and other paraphernalia can be found en masse. Maybe you’re trying to complete a collection of WWE figures or just want to add another Funko Pop! figure to your shelf. Either way, you’re bound to find something you’ll like.

Last but not least: cosplay! Do you have a killer Hawkeye or Batwoman costume? Maybe you Hulk out like no one else. Don your costume this weekend and attend the cosplay contest for your chance to win prizes!

If any of this sounds like fun to you, you can purchase one-day or all-weekend passes on the MCCC website. Excelsior!
