With the State of Michigan having ordered everyone to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic, many restaurants and bars are stepping up their carryout and delivery business as much as they can. In an effort to support these local businesses during these trying times, we’ve been highlighting bars and restaurants that are currently offering these options to customers.
We now turn our flavor palates to the flavorfully spicy cuisine of India. Known for blending spices with rice, vegetables and sometimes meat, Indian cuisine contains a wide variety of flavor combinations to choose from. People tend to fall back on their favorites, like chicken curry or masala, but there is a whole world of options to choose from. If you’re dining to-go these days, check out these local Indian restaurants for carryout or delivery.
Located in Ann Arbor, Curry On was founded in 2012 to provide the area with a fast-casual dining experience for fans of Indian cuisine. Some of their most popular items are the Kati Rolls, which come in a variety of styles from butter paneer to chicken tikka. While dining in is not an option at the moment, Curry On is providing in-store and curbside pickup as well as delivery options. If you order between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. ask about the lunch special.
Like many restaurants, on March 16, Priya Indian Cuisine in Troy shifted to only serving customers via carryout and delivery. That hasn’t stopped them from providing homemade-quality Indian food to its patrons on a daily basis. Whether you’re craving a classic like chicken curry, sticking to a vegetarian diet with the aloo gobi, or interested in something else entirely, Priya’s menu is loaded with options. Ask about their lunch boxes, which come in vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties. And, if you are within six miles of their location, delivery fees are waived.
Also located in Troy, Ashoka specializes in Moghali, South Indian, Indian Chinese and North Indian cuisine. That means you’ll find dishes that range from very spicy and hot to sweet and mild. All of their chefs pride themselves on recreating traditional flavors using fresh ingredients and spices instead of commonly used products, like curry powder. If you want something with a kick, check out their southern specialties. If you’re interested in a bit of a fusion, their Indian Chinese options range from common fried rice dishes to vegetable or chicken haka noodles. This Hamtramck spot has been providing delicious Indian cuisine to local residents for years and will continue to operate its carryout and delivery services during the shutdown of all dine-in services in Michigan.
