You know how they say dog owners tend to be mirror images of their dogs? I think the same can be said of people and their favorite burgers. Bear with me.

A person’s favorite burger says a lot about their personality. Maybe you like a little spice in your life, so you load that baby up with ghost pepper sauce and jalapenos! Or maybe you’re more of a Plain Jane and you just like the essentials: lettuce, tomato, mayo, onions and pickles.

Whatever your favorite burger may be, be glad there are times like National Burger Month and great burger joints in Detroit to celebrate the burger that really sees you for you.

The Late-Nighter – Honest John’s Bar & Grill

This Selden Street joint serves up one heck of a burger and the best part, my nighttime-loving friend? You can enjoy this burger until 2 a.m. when the kitchen closes. If you’re feeling a little sleepy, then the BBQ, bacon & cheddar burger with optional ghost pepper BBQ sauce will be sure to wake you right up!

Enough room for your pets. Enough room for everything they need. See why Suburban is perfect for you… and your four-legged friends.

The Showboater – Cutter’s Bar & Grill

Cutter’s Bar & Grill in Eastern Market doesn’t like to name its burgers. Instead, you pick the size (3-32 ounces) and then pick the toppings. With so many options, it’s easy for someone to show off a little (or a lot). Can you take on a 32-ounce burger with all of the toppings? Sounds like something worthy of a bet.

The Classically-Trained – Nemo’s Bar

Nemo’s Bar in Corktown has been around for more than 50 years and has been slinging burgers just as long. There are a couple options to choose from, like the cheddar burger and the bacon cheeseburger, but nothing too fancy. If you’re looking for a burger to enjoy on game day that’s simple and tastes great, Nemo’s Bar is a perfect choice thanks to its shuttle service to downtown Detroit.

The Adventurer – Green Dot Stables

If you’re the type of person that likes to roll the dice when it comes to trying a new, juicy burger, Green Dot Stables in Detroit is where you want to be. The “Mystery Meat” burger is a rotating option that changes every so often. In the past, the Mystery Meat burger has been made of elk sausage, salmon, wild boar and even shark meat.

The Variety-Seeker – Mercury Burger Bar

For the person that likes to try something new every time they eat out, Mercury Burger Bar in Corktown satisfies with 15 unique burgers. Some of the burgers include “Southwest Detroit” (topped with a chorizo slider, jalapenos, munster cheese, tortilla strips, avocado and zanahorias) and “Eastern Market” (black bean burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, muenster cheese, avocado on a whole grain bun). You’d have to eat here every other day this month to try all 15 burgers. Are you up for the challenge?
