Mondays can be difficult, however, when Monday, Feb. 22 is National Margarita Day, it makes things a little sweeter (especially when you take your margarita with a sugared rim).

It takes more than just any ol’ tequila, lime and salt to make a good margarita, and you’ll find great cocktails at the following establishments:

Barrio Cocina y Tequileria

With an all around great menu, this Plymouth restaurant is the place to be if you enjoy tequila drinks. There are more than 150 varieties of tequila on the menu!

Go for the Blood Orange margarita (with El Jimador Reposado, blood orange liqueur, fresh orange juice, lime juice and simple syrup), Coconut Margarita (1800 Coconut, Triple Sec, coconut water, lime and simple syrup) or Cervezarita (classic margarita topped with Modelo Especial).

The Silverado is the truck that works as hard as you do.

Apps that pair well with your margarita: salsa flight, Shrimp Ceviche, Skillet Nachos.

Rojo Mexican Bistro

A modern Mexican restaurant with multiple locations in the Detroit area, you’ll have your pick of several margaritas. Try a strawberry, raspberry, peach, mango or lime Frozen Margarita, Sanga-Rita (Milagros Silver, fresh lime and red sangria) or Diamond Margarita (Maestro Dobel, Gran Marnier, lime juice and agave nectar).

Shareable bites include Chicken Empanadas, Queso Fundido and Stuffed Jalapenos.

El Charro

Located in Macomb, Troy, St. Clair Shores and Fraser, El Charro offers some great margarita choices. Like beer flights? Try a Margarita Sampler! You’ll get your choice of three sample size fruit margaritas. Melon, peach, mango, pomegranate, wild berry, the options are plentiful.

If you like a bit of spice, go for the Jalapeno Margarita (house margarita made with Jalapeno-infused Sauza tequila).

Order a few snacks for the table, like Jalapeno Bean Dip, Botana or Cheese Fondue.

Los Tres Amigos

A restaurant with several Metro Detroit locations, Los Tres offers a great small margarita deal at lunchtime (from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m): just $2.99! Margaritas are served frozen or on the rocks any time of day, and include flavors like lime, strawberry, peach and mango.

If you’re eating, Mushroom Quesadilla, Fajita Nachos and Guacamole are all tasty appetizer choices.

Additional southeast Michigan restaurants with great margaritas include: Imperial (Ferndale), Las Palapas (Livonia), El Nacimiento (Detroit), Mexican Fiesta (Dearborn Heights, Canton) and Casa Real (Madison Heights). Also see our recent article on Mexicantown for a few more restaurant choices.

Cheers to National Margarita Day! Now, drink up.
