Ferndale is a great city that continues to become great with each passing season. New restaurants, taprooms and coffee houses are springing up in Detroit’s neighboring town and we can’t wait to get our hands (and mouths) on them. Just this summer, you’ll be able to try new craft beer, great eats from food trucks and freshly roasted coffee right in your “backyard.” Check out these four new food and drink spots opening this summer in Ferndale.

Detroit Fleat

Ferndale’s premiere food truck park is slated to open July 5, offering consumers a one-stop shop for their favorite food truck cravings. It will be located in the former Wing Hing Inn Chinese restaurant on Nine Mile Rd. There will be four food truck parking spots. Three of them will be taken up by Delectabowl (whose owners are heading up Detroit Fleat), The Mac Shack and Pita Post. The fourth slot will be taken up by Drifter Coffee Thursday-Saturday, while a rotating selection of trucks will be parked there the rest of the week.

Axle Brewing Co.’s Livernois Tap

Fans of Axle Brewing Co. will be familiar with the Royal Oak brewery. The company’s Livernois Taproom recently opened on Livernois Ave., north of Eight Mile Rd. 13 draft beers are currently available with a food menu of apps, greens, sandwiches and more. Plus, there’s plenty of patio seating thanks to the long, communal picnic benches outside, so come on a warm summer day and a enjoy a cold brew with some friends.

Urbanrest Brewing Co.

This 65-seat taproom is slated to open this summer on Wolcott St., just south of Woodward Heights. The plan is to have five taps on rotation with two of them devoted to house-fermented kombucha. While Urbanrest plans to partner with food trucks for food options, there will also be charcuterie boards with meats from Farm Field Table, cheeses and jams.

Adventure starts with a vehicle that’s up for anything. Trailblazer combines comfort you want, the versatility you need, and the technology to make every moment count.

New Order Coffee

Coffee house startup New Order Coffee has not one, but two locations in the works simultaneously. There’s the flagship location in Midtown set to open its doors soon and then the “coffee lab” in Ferndale, which will be converted into a full-fledged cafe. A quick glance at New Order’s social media and you’ll see that they are prepping to hit the ground running. Speaking of social media, that’s where you’ll want to keep your eye on to know when you can start sipping on their fresh, micro-roasted coffee.

What are you looking forward to the most, Ferndale? Some delicious bites at Detroit Fleat? A kick of caffeine from New Order Coffee? Or maybe a cold brew to wind down the weekend at Axle’s Livernois Tap? Whatever you fancy, it’s going to be a great summer in Ferndale.
