The definition of a taproom is “a room in which alcoholic drinks, especially beer, are available on tap.” That sounds like our type of room, and metro Detroiters seem to agree as there are plenty of new breweries and taprooms that either just opened or are opening their doors this spring. We’ve highlighted five breweries and taprooms we think you should check out.

Homegrown Brewing Company

Homegrown Brewing Company in Oxford opened their doors less than two weeks ago offering a wide range of craft beers and house-made food. The brewing company focuses on small-batch brewing using locally-sourced ingredients to give their beers a hometown taste. The microbrewery will feature six flagship beers including the Oxford Ale, Whamber Ale, Pollyann Whitbier, and the Avery Brown.

Fillmore 13 Brewery

Formally an art gallery, the recently opened Fillmore 13 Brewery in Pontiac offers an expansive draft list that is sure to please any beer drinker. The taproom offers you the chance to relax with a cold beer to catch up with old friends, watch sporting events, or have a nice dinner. Try their hand-tossed and brick oven baked pizzas to go along with your beer and you won’t be disappointed.

Black Bottom Brewing Company Inc.

Black Bottom Brewing Company Inc. opened their doors to the public this month to serve their locally crafted artisanal ale and beers. You can support the local craft beer taproom by getting a membership that includes perks like money off certain beers, free admission to Detroit Oktoberfest, and first tastings of special releases.

When you have the tools to do it yourself, nothing can stop you from turning your vision into reality. Trailblazer offers advanced storage options for a small SUV that is versatile, powerful, and ready to get the job done

Eastern Market Brewing Co.

Set to open this spring, Eastern Market Brewing Company plans to be a hoppin’ (pun intended) place. Four friends from college bought the space and plan on featuring mostly German inspired beers. The two-story brewery will span over 5,200 square-feet and will feature all locally made furniture.

Axle Brewing Co.

The Royal Oak taproom will be opening its doors next month, and you’re going to want to be there when it does. Axle Brewing Co. will feature a 75 seat taproom where they’ll have 12-14 different Axle beers on tap. The building will also include a beer garden where you can sit outside on a beautiful summer day.
