Just a week ago, we delved into guilty pleasure foods at Metro Detroit restaurants. Now that it’s January, it’s the time of year when everyone vows to get back into shape, so buh bye, comfort food.

If you’re sticking to your diet and are craving just a taste of comfort, the following restaurants serve healthy versions of typical guilty pleasure dishes or cheat meals.

Green Zone Pizza

An organic pizzeria located in Grosse Pointe, you can enjoy a healthy slice (or two!) of pizza without the guilt. Pizzas are made with organic dough and you can build your own pie with soy cheese, if you wish.

Signature pizzas include I Can’t Believe It’s Not Sausage (with turkey sausage) and Roasted Shrimp Pizza (topped with cilantro pesto, roasted peppers, spinach and shrimp).

Moo Cluck Moo

Ingredients are as fresh as possible at both the Canton and Dearborn Heights locations, including 100 percent all natural beef, chicken breast and dairy. Toppings are made without preservatives and cheese is free of hormones and antibiotics. Keep things light with the Moo Burger, The Big Shroom (mushroom burger with homemade balsamic pesto sauce) or Baa Burger (lamb burger topped with feta and homemade cumin aioli).

Seva

With locations in Detroit and Ann Arbor, this vegetarian restaurant whips up a variety of tasty, flavorful dishes. Try the Chili Cheese Fries, which are topped with vegan chili sauce and your choice of Cheddar Jack cheese or vegan Daiya. General Tso’s Cauliflower will also take care of your Chinese food craving. Feeling healthier already, aren’t you?

Additional tips while dining out: opt for multigrain bread, skip the cheese (you can do it!), and stick to low-cal condiments like mustard or hot sauce to give your meal some zip. Also, download the Grubbable app!

Healthy dining in the D can be easy when you know what to look for. Stick with your plan, and enjoy!
