My favorite French food is fries, but coming in at a close second is the crepe. In case you’ve never indulged, a crepe is essentially a paper-thin pancake, stuffed with sweet or savory filling.

While I would love to soar over to Paris to try an authentic one, Metro Detroit is home to two unique creperies, saving me a plane ticket and some serious jet lag.

What Crepe?, 317 S. Washington Ave., Royal Oak, boasts over 50 different crepes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. You’ll find vegan and vegetarian options, as well as organic tea, French press coffee and a full bar.

Savory fillings include various meats, cheeses and veggies, and sauces like hollandaise, balsamic vinaigrette and orange jalapeno.

Whether you're going out on a fishing trip, discovering new hiking spots, or heading out for a weekend of camping, the Trailblazer is an ideal companion for your active lifestyle.

Dessert crepes are packed with sweet contents—fruits, sauces and toppings, including fresh strawberries, caramel and cinnamon syrup.

Either way, you can build your own crepe or order from a laundry list of specialties, such as the Signature Rib Eye Truffle (pan seared rib eye, wild mushrooms, spinach, Swiss and truffle zip) or the Stand-By (asparagus, tomatoes, spinach, avocado and Swiss).

Good Girls Go to Paris Crepes, 15 E. Kirby, Detroit, serves crepes with a female moniker, adding a cutesy feel to an already unique dish.

Full-flavored crepes include the Vera (bacon, Boursin cheese and spinach), the Rose (fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinaigrette) and over a dozen others.

Those with a sweet tooth can rejoice that there are 26 different dessert crepes to choose from, composed of ingredients like brown sugar, fruit, cream cheese and chocolate.

The restaurant also serves a drink called Hot Nutella, which sounds like a culinary dream come true, in addition to standard coffee drinks and several kinds of juice.

Next time you’re heading out for a bite, consider one of these unique creperies. Bon appétit!
