Well, it’s just about that time again. The year of 2016 continues to fly by and we are (maybe?) finally at the time of the year where cold weather is no longer a concern. A telltale sign of this particular time of year is the abundance of outdoor concerts in the metro Detroit area!
If you enjoy live music, there aren’t too many things better than seeing your favorite artists perform outdoors with a nice, calm breeze blowing through your hair and thousands of people singing along. Here is your guide:
DTE hosts all kinds of big name acts, beginning and ending with country music superstars. Dierks Bentley kicks things off on May 22 and Rascal Flatts is the last listed act on Sept. 15. Other notable performers include Eddie Money, Boyz II Men, Keith Urban, Gwen Stefani, Black Sabbath and more. Check out the schedule.
The venue starts its outdoor concert season on June 4 as Rockstar Energy Drinks presents the “Taste of Chaos Tour” featuring Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday and more. Other acts throughout the season include Goo Goo Dolls, The Beach Boys and the Four Tops, Ted Nugent and “Weird Al” Yankovic. The full schedule is available here.

Meadow Brook is located on the campus of Oakland University. Meghan Trainor, Seal, Don Henley, 98 Degrees and several other performers are set to take stage at Meadow Brook in the upcoming months. The music of David Bowie will be performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on July 10!
The Rockin’ on the Riverfront concert series returns to the GM Riverfront Plaza for the 2016 season! On Friday nights throughout the summer (starting on July 8), Detroiters can enjoy free concerts! Some acts include Michael McDonald, Brett Michaels and the Grand Funk Railroad. You can check out the complete list of performers online.
Chene Park is also located on the water, and can hold 5,000 people in its seats, as well as an additional 1,000 people on the lawn. Notable acts for 2016 include Diana Ross, Lil Wayne and Two Chains, Bryson Tiller, Nelly and Keyshia Cole and New Edition. Take a peek at the event list and be sure to attend!
There is obviously no shortage of opportunity for enjoying an outdoor music venue in Detroit or its surrounding areas. I know I plan to take advantage of a few of these shows. Music is everything!
