This Saturday, April 16, metalheads, facemelters and music lovers of all kinds across the globe will descend on their favorite independent record stores for Record Store Day. Started in 2007, Record Store Day is an annual celebration of, well, music. More specifically, RSD is about supporting local, independent record stores by dedicating an entire day to the sales of records.

Think of it like Black Friday, but for record stores.

As usual, there will be plenty of records printed and sold specifically on Record Store Day at stores participating in the occasion. Records from a diverse range of artists are included in that list; artists including Miles Davis, Death Cab for Cutie, John Coltrane, The Doors, Bob Dylan, A-Ha, Lil Wayne, Madonna, Muse, Justin Bieber and more..

We’ve gathered up a few Detroit-area record stores participating in RSD 2016 below.

Flipside Records

Specializing in buying used products (vinyls, CDs, cassettes and more) from the public and selling it directly back to the community, Flipside Records provides decades of expertise to music fans of all kinds.

For RSD, Flipside Records will be opening early at 9 a.m. All used items, of which Flipside has a lot of, will be 20% off, and free swag will be given away on a first-come-first-serve basis. Also, be sure to give the store a call a couple days in advance to find out what kind of selection of RSD exclusive releases Flipside will have.

Dearborn Music

As the name implies, Dearborn Music is located in Dearborn on Michigan Avenue and has been in business since 1956.

For RSD, Dearborn Music will be opening its doors early at 8 a.m. and closing at 9:30 p.m. For the duration of the day, they will be selling used vinyls and CDs at 20% off. In addition, the long-running record store will be testing out new audio equipment, serving up sounds old and new.

Third Man Records

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Detroit native Jack White’s record store Third Man Records. After opening its first store in Nashville in 2009, Third Man Records opened their second brick and mortar store in Cass Corridor in Detroit last November.

For Record Store Day, TMR will be selling a double LP of Peel Sessions by White’s former band The White Stripes. This double vinyl pack will have one vinyl colored white, the other red. These two vinyls contain the band’s live sessions with BBC DJ John Peel during “the hubbub of ‘White Blood Cells.’” Also available will be a limited edition 7” green colored vinyl of Jack White’s cover of Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life.”

The venue will also have live performances from local DJs and bands beginning at 10 a.m. and running until the store closes.
