After Christmas morning’s routine activities of eagerly awaiting Santa’s arrival and tearing through presents have subsided, it’s time to move onto the next phase of the day: getting the big meal prepared.

A holiday season’s worth of stress is nearly over with, so why not cut yourself loose a little bit early? This year, instead of cooking a feast for your entire family, take them out! There are plenty of restaurants in the area hosting Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners, so whether you don’t celebrate the holiday or simply need a night off from the kitchen, you’re in luck. Read on for a few options.

The Rugby Grill, 100 Townsend St., Birmingham, is located inside the Townsend Hotel and is one of Detroit’s four-star restaurants. The kitchen will be open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and you can make a reservation by calling 248-642-5999.

The dinner menu consists of appetizers like Chilled Oysters and Artisan Cheese, followed by several soup and salad choices. Principal Plates, or main courses, include Brick Chicken (with ricotta gnocchi, kale and wild mushrooms), Risotto (with wild mushrooms, salsa verde and quail egg) and Striped Bass (with a potato crust, melted leeks and buerre rouge).

The four-course meal begins with a starter trio of Almond Bisque, Crab Agnolotti and Seared Duck Breast, followed by a palate cleansing Blueberry Merlot sorbetto. There are nearly a dozen different choices when it comes to the entrée, including Seared Diver Scallops, ‘Tis the Season Ravioli, Cedar Roasted Salmon, Pork Tenderloin and Center Cut 6 oz. Filet Mignon.

The dessert trio consists of a Mousse Duo, Flourless Chocolate Fudge Torte and Zinfandel Poached Pear.

Edison’s, 20301 Oakwood Blvd., Dearborn, is another restaurant located inside of a hotel, perfect should you eat too much and need to take a nap! Edison’s is holding both a Christmas holiday brunch and Christmas prime rib dinner buffet, so you have two opportunities to indulge.

The brunch includes an omelet station, carving station, waffle station, quiche, and entrees such as Chicken Marsala, Grilled Lamb Chops and Beef Tenderloin. Hot appetizers, salads, antipasto and, of course, desserts will also be available. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $60 for adults, $30 for children ages 6 to 12 (free for kids 5 and under).

If you’re going for dinner, the Christmas dinner buffet is all about the prime rib carving station. Additional entrees include Chicken Marsala and Parmesan Crusted Tilapia. There will be plenty of side items, including Caesar salad and fruit salad, as well as dessert options like Chocolate Cheesecake and Crème Brûlée. The meal costs $35 for adults, $17.50 for children ages 6 to 12 years old (children 5 and under are free).
