It looks like the harsh winter weather is behind us (knock on wood) and we can finally look forward to not only better weather, but more music festivals as well! We all know that some of the best spring or summer nights are spent jamming out to our favorite artists, and those nights are not far away. So, get excited and start planning your best summer yet. Celebrating the best Detroit artists, the Detroit Music Awards at the Fillmore is a great way to discover some truly incredible local talent. The awards show will not only honor the talented artists and bands, but will feature performances from many of them as well. The night will feature performances from the original members of Sponge, Kash Doll, Melvin Davis, Frontier Ruckus, and Liquid Monk. Be sure to check their Facebook page for details and tickets.
Hart Plaza will once again play host to the Movement Music Festival over Memorial Day weekend. This year’s show features a large array of EDM’s biggest names over the course of three days, and will even include a special Wu-Tang Clan performance celebrating their 25th anniversary. The 99.5 WYCD Hoedown has become one of metro Detroit’s biggest summer events, and this year proves to be arguably its biggest yet. The Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this June when it comes to metro Detroit this summer. World class musicians will perform at some of the best venues throughout metro Detroit over the two week festival. Featured artists included Leila Josefowicz, FIT Siegel, the Thalea String Quartet, and the Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings. You can look at all of the venues and schedule to plan accordingly.
The 2018 Detroit Music Weekend comes to the Detroit Theatre District for another year full of great outdoor concerts. This year’s festival will be celebrating the Jackson 5 and feature a concert from the Jacksons. Other performers at the outdoor concert will include Jeff Daniels, Will Sessions, Mark Farmer’s American Band, and Craig Brown Band. Guests will also be able to enjoy the MotorCity Artisan Market, which is the largest one day exhibit of Detroit merchandise with over 100 participating retailers and restaurants.
