If ever there were two things that belong together, it’s sea salt and caramel. Say what you will about the fate of Angie and Brad, but the biting taste of salt and the sweetness of caramel are a true match made in heaven.

Salted caramel is pretty popular these days, and with good reason. It’s everywhere in the dessert world, from ice cream to pie to custard, and it’s even making an appearance in breakfast items.

The next time you get a hankering for the perfect fusion of sweet and salty, head to one of the following places for a salted caramel treat:

Treat Dreams, 22965 Woodward Ave., Ferndale, has a rotating list of wacky flavors, as well as a few tried and true standbys. One of said regular flavors? Salted caramel. The only problem with this fact is that Treat Dreams is right across the street from my office, so only indulging once every few months takes some serious strength.

From transporting food and goods to having enough room for pets and family, owning the right SUV is essential for pet owners. See the available features that make the Chevy Tahoe a pet lover's dream.

Rock City Eatery, 11411 Joseph Campau, Hamtramck, is the brainchild of Rock City Pies guy, Nikita Santches. The recently opened restaurant, of course, includes Nik’s signature pies on the menu, including Salted Caramel Apple Pie. It doesn’t get much better.

The Rattlesnake Club, 300 River Place Dr., Detroit, serves up a dessert so decadent, I think you’ll get a cavity just reading the description: Nutella and Espresso Cheesecake with Salted Caramel Glaze. If that doesn’t sound like the best way to end a meal, I don’t know what is.

Elwin and Company, 2971 Coolidge Hwy., Berkley, is known for its scones and bakery sweets. However, look no further than the Sea Salt Chocolate Caramel Scone. Whether you enjoy it for breakfast or dessert (or both) is unimportant—as long as you sample it immediately.

Taste Love Cupcakes, 304 S. Main St., Royal Oak, is hands down my favorite cupcake bakery around. They won an episode of “Food Wars” on the Food Network last year, if you need further validation. They prepare a Chocolate Salted Caramel cupcake that is out of this world. Two other salty sweet variations are available for special order: gluten-free Chocolate Salted Caramel and Vanilla Salted Caramel.

Vinsetta Garage, 27799 Woodward Ave., Berkley, serves two different desserts to satisfy your sweet and salty craving—House-Made Salted Caramel Custard and a Salted Caramel Custard Milkshake. The only problem in this scenario will be deciding which of the two to order.

In order to research this particular topic, I took it upon myself to make a Salted Caramel Apple Pie from scratch. After scouring the Internet, I settled on a recipe from Ladies’ Home Journal. About four hours and three pounds of apples later, I had the most beautiful pie I’d ever prepared in front of my very eyes.

Take note: everything in this recipe is made from scratch, including the crust and salted caramel sauce. But let me assure you, it is worth every painstaking second. It may take you an entire Saturday afternoon to prepare and the following week and a half to work off, but you will not regret your decision.
