Shopping for gifts during the holidays can be a hassle, especially with everyone going to the same big box stores, crowding up the place. With the holiday shopping season in full swing, we thought we’d take a moment to highlight a few local toy stores worth checking out when shopping for the little ones, so you can avoid the craziness of the big box stores while still finding the right toy.

Doll Hospital & Toy Soldier Shop

Located in Berkley, Doll Hospital & Toy Soldier Shop is where you can find not only dolls and toy soldiers but tons and tons of other great children’s toys. Need a toy restored? Doll Hospital can do that. Looking for an outdoor playset or trampoline? Doll Hospital has that. For the LEGO enthusiasts, Doll Hospital has so many different sets of LEGO, it takes up 28 feet of wall space. With so many toys in one place, you might end up feeling like a kid again yourself.

Adventures in Toys

In business for more than 25 years, Adventures in Toys in downtown Birmingham has a good selection of toys for all ages. What’s great is that if you don’t know quite what to get someone, the staff is happy to help you make the right purchase for any given age, interest, etc. Plus, Adventures in Toys offers free gift wrapping, which is perfect for the holiday season.

The Robot Garage

Specializing in robotics, maker toys and LEGO, The Robot Garage has a great selection of building kits for kids of all ages interested in building their own marvels. After you pick up the right set for the little tyke in your life, consider coming back with them to check out the Drop-In room where kids can build whatever they can dream up. Kids can spend up to two hours in the Drop-In room for $8 per child. Adults are required to stay and supervise their children.

Big Toys Arcade

If you’re looking for something a little more electronic, Big Toys Arcade in Sterling Heights has you covered. With tons of arcade cabinets, pinball machines and more, Big Toys Arcade is where you’ll want to go if you’re looking for something a little more nostalgic. Who doesn’t love a good game of Pac-Man or Galaga? How about the pinball aficionado in your family? If you’re not looking for games, Big Toys Arcade has jukeboxes, neon signs and more, too.
