For a lot of people, getting exercise is a lot easier when it’s outdoors. There’s something about the fresh air and (hopefully) the sun in the sky that puts you in a “fit” mood. Whether you’re into yoga, biking, walking, running or hiking, there’s a way (and a group) for you to get your sweat on in the great outdoors of Metro Detroit!
After holding events in Southwest Detroit and Corktown, Open Streets Detroit is hosting their next event in Rouge Park. What is Open Streets Detroit, though? For one day, three miles of Rouge Park will be transformed into a car-free zone, giving people the opportunity to run, walk, bike, skateboard, rollerblade or whatever they please. There will also be events, vendors and more located throughout the three-mile stretch.
The Detroit RiverFront is a great place to get in shape. It’s made even easier with yoga, tai chi and walking classes held on a regular basis. Yoga on the RiverFront is held on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. and Friday mornings at 10 a.m. A tai chi class is held Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. on the RiverFront, and the DMC RiverWalkers meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8 a.m. RUNdetroit hosts a free group run on Saturday mornings year-round. All paces are welcome (walkers, runners, joggers) and there are three different routes to choose from (3, 6 and 10-mile routes). The groups leave at 8 a.m. from the RUNdetroit store at 441 W Canfield St. and water/electrolyte drink samples will be provided before and after the run. Built for those who build. The Chevy Silverado's strength and versatility make it the perfect partner for all your home improvement projects. Every Friday morning, bikers in the Ypsilanti area meet up at Beezy’s Cafe to go bike-riding together. Some meet there and ride their bikes to work. Others take a 30-45-minute ride to the west of Ypsilanti and then back to town. They meet every week, all year long. From now until December, West Bloomfield Parks is hosting “Mommy & Me Hikes” on Thursday mornings. This event is great for those with children who want to get some exercise while exploring the great outdoors. It’s a free event, but you have to sign up in advance.
