The wait is almost over for Detroit soccer fans as the Detroit City Football Club hits the field for its home opener in less than two weeks! Entering their sixth year, the club has garnered an extremely passionate fanbase and always offers a unique sporting experience at each of its home games.

Last season saw the club move its home matches from Cass Tech High School to Keyworth Stadium, a move that proved to be very beneficial to both the team and its fans. Lindsey Pehrson, Media Director for the club, said that they look to build on the momentum gained last season and give fans new experiences with new opponents, new players, and added amenities.

DCFC set club and league records at its home opener last season with 7,410 in attendance, which they hope to beat when they host Dayton Dynamo on Saturday, May 6. This season will see 11 home matches and you can check out the full schedule here.

One of the most anticipated games this season features a visit from Glentoran FC of Northern Ireland on Saturday, May 27. Detroit City FC will welcome the club back to Detroit for the first time in 50 years. Glentoran FC represented the city of Detroit in 1967 as the Detroit Cougars in an attempt to bring soccer to North America.

“We’re proud to bring light to this often forgotten piece of Detroit sports history and recognize the 50th anniversary of the Detroit Cougars alongside Glentoran. It’s such a fascinating story and one that deserves proper recognition,” said Pehrson.

What makes DCFC matches different than many other sporting events is the insane amount of passion the fans and the community has for the team. From the March to the Match, to the chants and countless flags in the stands, the atmosphere on match day is certainly something to experience.

“We have something so special and rare here. We often say it’s more of an experience than a game. You’re at an 80-year-old landmark in Keyworth Stadium that’s situated in the middle of a vibrant Hamtramck community, with the most passionate supporters you’ll find,” said Pehrson. “It’s grassroots, it’s gritty. It’s Detroit soccer. There’s nothing like it. ”
