They say that laughter is the best medicine, if that’s the case, then metro Detroit will be plenty healthy this summer! There are numerous great comedy shows coming to metro Detroit; whether it’s improv, up-and-coming stand-ups, or legendary performers, there are countless shows that are guaranteed to make you LOL. We’ve narrowed it down to five that we think will be side-splittingly funny and shouldn’t be missed!
A tournament of comedic proportions, Go Comedy! Improv Theater will be hosting the BITS Tournament all summer long to determine the next Go Comedy! improv team. Each week, two teams will battle for laughs in long-form improv where the audience decides who moves onto the round. The tournament started on May 30, but it will pick up again on Wednesday, June 6 and run through Wednesday, August 15.
Every Thursday through August 2, Ant Hall will host its Comedy Slice Block Party featuring a wide range of local comedic talent! The night will feature 30 minute comedy blocks of improv, music, sketch, or any type of comedy that is guaranteed to make people laugh! You’ll never know what to expect, but with the talented Planet Ant team and rising local comedians, you won’t want to miss it! Legendary comedian Whoopi Goldberg will be performing at the Sound Board Theater inside the MotorCity Casino Hotel for one night only on Friday, June 15. The popular actress and host on “The View” will bring her signature style of stand-up to Detroit for a night of hilarious comedy. The show is 21 and over and you can get your tickets here. The Ann Arbor Comedy Castle will host a special engagement with John Heffron on Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30. The long time comedian first hit the pop culture zeitgeist after winning the second season of “Last Comic Standing” and has since been seen on multiple comedy shows and specials, including his own Netflix special, “Middle Class Funny.” The comedian always makes an annual stop at Ann Arbor Comedy Castle, where he is their all-time most popular comedian, so get your tickets before they sell out! Popular stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan will bring his signature “dad” style comedy to the DTE Energy Music Theatre on Saturday, July 28. The Grammy-award nominated comedian is bringing his Fixer Upper Tour to metro Detroit after being nominated for his “Cinco” album in 2017 and releasing his new comedy album, “Noble Ape,” earlier this year.
