As the old saying goes, children are our future. It’s a simple notion: as we get older, kids grow up and they become a part of the adult world, taking on whatever corner of the professional world they land in. But, while they’re still young and figuring things out, nurturing their interests is exactly how they figure out what it is they want to do. A great way to do that is at a summer camp! There are many different kinds of summer camp, so whether your kid is into science or art, sports or video games, there’s a camp in metro Detroit that can help foster the natural interests your child already has.

The Artist

Do you have a young shutterbug in your family? Check out the Young Creators Summer Photography Camp in Detroit. This one week class for students ages 11-18 will help them learn the ins and outs of digital photography with help from instructors and daily photo walks and field trips. Over at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center you’ll find art-filled summer camps for kids ages 4-17. Professional artists and art educators will teach your kids about a range of artistic disciplines, depending on the camp, from drawing and fashion to clay molding and metalwork and everything in between.

The Scientist

If your kid wants to invent the next great thing to revolutionize the world, that idea might come from their stay at one of these science-based summer camps. The Michigan Science Center is holding a 10-week science camp June 26 – September 1, exploring biology, chemistry, engineering, robots and more. Maybe they want to go “Digging for Dinos” in Ann Arbor, or make “Ingenious Inventions!” The Mad Science Detroit chapter has all kinds of science camps for all the little scientists in metro Detroit.

The Athlete

One of the most popular athletic summer camps in metro Detroit, of course, is the Detroit Lions Summer Football Camps and Academies. The Tech-Wiz

Is your kid the first to fix all of your family’s tech problems, making you feel technologically illiterate?
