It’s hard to argue that any other city knows how to celebrate automobiles like the Motor City and summer is definitely the time to show off some classic car muscle on the streets of metro Detroit. While that is a sight to behold, you might be surprised to know that there is more to do at car cruises and car shows than gaze at passing cars. Below are some of the upcoming vehicle-related events in metro Detroit that will appeal to not only car buffs, but to those simply looking for a good time out and about in the summer weather.

Eastpointe Cruisin’ Gratiot (6/17)

The 19th annual Eastpointe Cruisin’ Gratiot will once again — you guessed it — cruise down Gratiot this upcoming Saturday. Classic car shows are actually taking place all throughout this week, but if you don’t want to just look at cars, then you can race through the 5K Fun Run on Saturday morning. All proceeds will go to the city’s Odd Fellows Charities and you can register for the run here.

Sloan Museum Auto Fair (6/24-6/25)

The Sloan Museum Auto Fair will have its share of classic cars on display next weekend, but the event will also keep the little ones entertained and give attendees the opportunity to shop for antiques galore. That’s right! You’ll find collectibles, arts and crafts, and even vehicles at the fair. If your kids are more of the hands-on type, children under the age of 11 will be able to make and take home their own model cars. The actual car cruise itself will take place on Friday, June 23, but most of the weekend’s events will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

All American Cruise (7/15)

The All American Cruise will be cruisin’ down Wayne Road in Westland on Saturday, July 15. Right after the conclusion of the cruise, there will be a special drive-in movie experience at Westland Bowl. If not everyone in the family is into car cruises, they can enjoy the fun of a drive-in movie (the specific movie is expected to be announced in the coming weeks).

The Silverado is the truck that works as hard as you do.

Troy Traffic Jam (8/6)

Taking over the Columbia Center on Big Beaver will be the 10th annual Troy Traffic Jam on Sunday, August 6. The car show will have more than 200 classic cars to gaze at and there will also be plenty of fun, family-friendly entertainment, including a live performance from DJ Bob Steel. What? You’ve never heard of DJ Bob Steel!? The 67-year-old disc jockey from Genesee Township is the de facto summertime car show DJ and, lucky for you, he will be making an appearance at Troy Traffic Jam. It’s sure to be fun for all ages and proceeds go to benefit the Troy Historical Society.

Be sure to get out and enjoy the various car cruises and car shows taking place in the Motor City this summer!
