When it comes to healthy eating, you can always count on a salad, and when it comes to flavorful, mouthwatering, tasty cuisine, you can always count on Mexican food. Combine the two, and you get the best of both worlds: taco salad. Who doesn’t love a meal that involves an edible, crispy taco shell bowl?

Here’s where you’ll find some of the best taco salads in the D:

Sagebrush Cantina

With locations in Lake Orion and Fenton, the Taco Salad here contains your choice of shredded beef or chicken with lettuce, beans, red and green pepper, tomatoes, black olives, avocado, cheese, onion and sour cream. If you’re torn between Taco Salad and Fajitas, opt for the Fajita Taco Salad.

Mesa Tacos and Tequila

Having opened in downtown Royal Oak last summer, Mesa serves authentic Mexican cuisine with a unique twist. Take, for example, the Brisket Tostada Salad. Not your typical taco salad, it’s made with mole verde brisket, romaine lettuce, black beans, queso, queso fresco, pico de gallo, crema and avocado, all in a crispy shell. Those of you who don’t like lettuce, this one may change your mind.

Adventure starts with a vehicle that’s up for anything. Trailblazer combines comfort you want, the versatility you need, and the technology to make every moment count.

Los Galanes

One of many Mexican restaurants in southwest Detroit, Los Galanes is a family-owned establishment that has been serving up food for nearly 50 years. Order the Fajita Taco Salad, with your choice of chicken, ground beef, steak or shrimp. Served in a flour shell, it’s topped with lettuce, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, avocados, olives, cheese and sour cream.

Be sure to try the Botana Galan, a delicious appetizer suitable for a crowd.

Mojave Cantina

An authentic Mexican restaurant in downtown Clawson with numerous accolades, the fresh menu includes Taco Salad with ground beef, grilled chicken, steak or shrimp with mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, black olives, cucumber and cheese, all in a fried tortilla bowl. There’s also a Fajita Salad on the menu.

If variety is what you crave, consider Angelina’s Mexican Restaurant of Wyandotte and Allen Park, where there are four different taco salads to choose from.

You may have noticed that several of southwest Detroit’s restaurants are lacking from the above list, and that’s because today’s companion article is all about Mexicantown! You can find it here.

Get hungry, skip the fine china and enjoy a taco salad in the D!
