The 2016 Chevy Malibu: Larger, Sleeker and More Efficient

By: Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers | April 8, 2015

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was unveiled last week at the New York International Auto Show. The longer, sleeker and more technologically advanced version of the mid-size vehicle made great impressions.

The new Malibu offers more legroom than past models and is much more efficient. The 2016 version is estimated to get 37 mpg on the highway with its standard 1.5 liter turbo powertrain. In addition to the regular model, there is a hybrid option!

The all-new hybrid powertrain, which leverages technology from the Chevrolet Volt, offers an estimated 48 mpg in the city, 45 mpg on the highway and 47 mpg combined.

While the 2016 model offers more space—its wheelbase has been stretched close to four inches—it is also nearly 300 pounds lighter than in years past. More interior space and increased efficiency allow for this version to be the most comfortable Malibu yet.

How do you make a truck your own? We're redefining what it means to drive a pickup. With luxurious comfort, a world-class entertainment system, and a 6-position Multi-Flex Tailgate, Silverado is the change you've been waiting for.

The advanced safety technology is also something to mention. Lane Keep Assist warns drivers when they are unintentionally drifting into other lanes, and gently helps you steer the vehicle back into the proper lane. We’ve all had to deal with bozos nearly merging into us; perhaps this will slowly but surely deter that action.

That’s not it for safety, though. Available features such as The Rear Cross Traffic Alert uses radar sensors to monitor traffic behind you, and the rear vision camera allows you to see what is behind you when you’re backing out. The Forward Collision Alert warns you with a Tailgating Alert if you are following a vehicle too closely and the Crash Imminent Alert signals when you’re approaching a vehicle too quickly.

There are also 10 standard airbags and Automatic Crash Response notifies an OnStar representative immediately following the deployment of the air bags. All of these safety precautions will hopefully decrease the number of accidents we see, and drivers can feel safer knowing that Chevrolet takes all of these preventative measures.

The technology is unprecedented. The 2016 Malibu comes equipped with 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as an available wireless phone charger in certain segment-exclusive models. An all-new Teen Driver feature is also available, and worth consideration for parents with young adult drivers.

The feature promotes safe driving. It allows parents to view driving statistics of their kids, such as maximum speed, warning alerts and more. It also mutes audio if occupants aren’t wearing seat belts, and gives audio and visual warnings when the vehicle is traveling over predetermined speeds. How’s that for worrying about if your teen is driving safe?

In terms of the engine, the standard engine is an all-new, power-dense Ecotec 1.5 liter turbo engine with fuel-saving stop/start technology, offering an estimated 160 horsepower. There is also a high-output 2.0 liter turbo engine available, which is mated with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine choice gets an estimated 250 horsepower!

The sleek and stylish 2016 Malibu will be offered in L, LS, LT and the new Premier trims. It is set to go on sale in the fall of 2015. Visit any of your Metro Detroit Chevy Dealerships to get one!
