Anyone who has been to a Detroit City Football Club match knows just how passionate this city is about soccer. We are still a few months away from the season kicking off in May, but the club recently announced some exciting news for soccer enthusiasts in the area.

DCFC unveiled plans for a brand new, state of the art soccer facility titled the Detroit City Fieldhouse to be opened this September. The 75,000 square-foot indoor facility is located in the former City Sports Center ice skating rink and will include one boarded field and one non-boarded field.

The Detroit City Fieldhouse will become home to many youth soccer leagues and even the Detroit City Futbol League, which is DCFC’s official adult recreational league. Although nothing official has been announced yet, there are plans for DCFC to form partnerships with local youth soccer programs in metro Detroit.

Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Detroit City FC Todd Kropp is overseeing the financial planning for the new facility and said that the Detroit City Fieldhouse has been an idea for the past couple of years due to the popularity of both the DCFC and their accompanying recreational leagues.

“With over 50 teams playing in our Detroit City Futbol League, we wanted to offer a space for those teams to continue playing together through the winter months inside the city of Detroit,” Kropp said. “As we look to move DCFC to a pro level, it also provides a space for that team to train indoors if we are playing a year-round schedule.”

Non-soccer amenities will include the Detroit City Clubhouse between the two fields featuring a full kitchen and bar and will overlook the two fields so fans can enjoy the matches in a relaxing environment. Plans are still being finalized for the clubhouse so it will open shortly after the facility opens in September.

As for Detroit City FC itself, the schedule is going to be released soon and there are plenty of exciting events fans should be excited about. With another exciting year of league play and a couple of fun friendlies thrown in, this should be another great year for DCFC.

“Coach Pirmann is actively recruiting a strong roster of players which should make for another extremely competitive season,” Kropp said. “Since we started in 2012 the level of competition has increased each year so it’s exciting to see the talent pool grow in this region.”
