If you’re looking to enjoy some unique cocktails on a Monday night while also helping out a great cause, The Skip has just the event for you.
The downtown cocktail bar is hosting its third Communal Buzz event of the season where they invite their favorite bartenders to help give back to the community. This Monday night’s event will feature Broken Shaker out of Miami and Chicago with all of the proceeds benefiting InsideOut Literary Arts.
For nearly 25 years InsideOut has helped Detroit’s youth build their literary and academic skills through creative writing by working with professional writers. The organization is Detroit’s largest and oldest literary non-profit and has served more than 58,000 Detroit students.
Monday night’s event will feature Broken Shaker, the award-winning cocktail bar based out of Miami and Chicago, with new bars that recently opened in New York and Los Angeles. Joe Robinsion, owner of The Skip, said that their tropical and tiki vibe will match perfectly with The Skip’s on Monday night.

“They always have creative, consistent and inspiring drinks that any cocktail drinker will enjoy,” Robinson said.
The Skip’s goal with this event is to not only raise proceeds for local programs, but to have the featured guest bar team learn the Communal Buzz model so they can apply it back in their own communities. Past participating cocktail bars include Cure in New Orleans, The Violet Hour in Chicago, Service Bar in Washington D.C., and the Ruth Ellis Center from Detroit.
“We love inviting out of town cocktail bars to our bar to show them Detroit and to help us give back to the community,” Robinson said.
Communal Buzz will continue throughout the summer as The Roosevelt Room from Austin will stop by on Monday, July 1. Other pop-ups include US Bartender’s Guild from Detroit on July 15, Drink from Boston on July 29, and Manilito from New Orleans on August 8.
