Summer may be wrapping up, but one activity that knows no season is exploring a new downtown area in southeast Michigan. This month, head to downtown Grosse Pointe, where “The Village” has plenty to offer!

Food

Green Zone Pizza offers organic and healthy pizza, so you can pig out without feeling so guilty. Meats are 100 percent natural, including steroid and hormone free, and dough is 100 percent organic.

Try the I Can’t Believe It’s Not Sausage (turkey sausage, pepper rings and mushrooms) or Michigan Cherry BBQ Chicken (Amish chicken with cherry barbecue and red onions) pizza.

SideStreet Diner is known for its made from scratch recipes. Wraps, burgers, and entrees are on the menu, as well as a variety of breakfast items. If you’re dining after noon, consider the Shrimp Asparago Pasta or Roasted Pork Dinner.

City Kitchen provides upscale food in a casual setting, so it’s a great way to spend an evening downtown. Happy hour takes place weekdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and includes 25 percent off all cocktails.

The lunch menu includes Harvest Salad, Chicken Pot Pie and Blackened Chicken Sandwich.

Fun

City Bark is a great way to treat your pup, especially if you forgot National Dog Day. You’ll find everything from games and toys to harnesses and leashes. Every day is a good day to pamper your pup!

Giuseppe’s International Oils and Vinegars is a family owned business that surely all home chefs will love. Flavored oils, balsamic vinegars, herbs and spices and more are for sale and will enhance your cooking.

El’s Boutique is a trendy store for girls where you can take your daughter back to school shopping. There’s nothing like fresh fall fashion and cute locker decorations to soften the blow of going back to school!

More

Consider planning your visit around two upcoming events, including Grosse Pointe’s Got Talent on Saturday, Sept. 12 and VillageFest the same Saturday and Sunday. The latter is a festival of food, music, art and cars suitable for all ages.

Enjoy your time spent in downtown Grosse Pointe, and let us know where you’d like to go next!
