These Local Dog-Friendly Beaches are Pawsitively Awesome

The dog days of summer are officially here! There is nothing better than being a beach bum or beach dog for that matter, sunbathing and splashing around under the hot sun.  Some beaches and parks have special accommodations for your furry friends, like special dog-friendly hours and may even have special areas for beach play. If your dog loves to splash around, make sure to keep a close eye on them so they stay away from the rough waters. So, where can you take your dog in the metro Detroit area? Pack up the car with your dogs favorite snacks, toys and head to one of these locations!

Paw Run Dog Park- Paw Run is eighteen fenced-in acres of off-leash fun! Located in Ann Arbor, your pup will enjoy almost a full mile stretch of perfectly manicured and mowed trails. There is a a play-area with a pond perfect for splashing as well as an agility yard. While your dog is at play, you can be certain that they are safe as there is a secure double-gated entry system.

Lakeshore Park – Located in Novi and considered one of the largest of the city’s parks, Lakeshore Park offers a wide variety of recreational play for you and your furry pet.  This includes a swimming beach on Walled Lake, the largest lake in the city for summer fun. You can take your dog for a walk on the well maintained walking trails and perch on a spot on the lake-front seating while enjoying the sun.

Olson Park-  Located in Ann Arbor,  Olson Park is an all off-leash dog play area located in the south-central portion of the park. The park is perfectly located between Pontiac Trail and Birchwood Drive.  Dog owners can exercise and play off leash in a fenced and safe environment.

Van Buren Park Beach- Located in Belleville, this park is a combination of trails and beach. On a hot summer day lay your blanket out, enjoy the sunshine and watch while your dog plays and splashes around.  Some of the amenities you and your pet can enjoy beyond hiking trails and a beach area, include a sled hill (which is great for those winter months), and community gardens that are fantastic for a leisurely walk.

Campus Martius Park– Located in the center of Downtown Detroit, there is 4OO,OOO pounds of sand and colorful, comfortable lounge chairs offers a relaxing atmosphere for outdoor fun in a beach-like setting during the summer. Not a bad place for you and your furry baby to get some good dog treats, sunbathe and sniff around in the sand.
