Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers and Detroit Free Press have teamed up for the Top 10 Takeover, a series of restaurant takeovers that will highlight the ten best new restaurants in Detroit and the surrounding area. Last time we looked at the Restaurant of the Year, Chartreuse. Next, the Takeover heads to Detroit to check out Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles on July 26.

Kuzzo's Waffle and Fried Chicken

Chicken and waffles is a staple southern-style meal that found its way north to Michigan some time ago. Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles in Detroit carries on the legacy of this sought after meal with a menu that is choc full of different kinds of variations of the classic chicken and waffle dish. In fact, Kuzzo’s has ten different combinations of chicken and waffles at your disposal with names like “What Up Doe” (three pieces of fried chicken, two waffles, grits and two eggs with cheese) and “Tender Love” (three hand-battered chicken tenders and a waffle).

“My favorite thing about Kuzzo’s is the energy it has created in its neighborhood, all with a simple concept done well and with style,” said Detroit Free Press restaurant critic Mark Kurlyandchik. “I don’t know what Ron Bartell’s plan is for the future of the restaurant – it’s still in its first year – but I think there’s certainly a demand for more.”

Enough room for your pets. Enough room for everything they need. See why Suburban is perfect for you… and your four-legged friends.

Folks taking part in the Takeover of Kuzzo’s on July 26 will be treated to four courses of fried chicken and waffle goodness. The first course will consist of your choice of shrimp or chicken tacos and fried green tomatoes (seasonal) or fried corn. Course number two is Vicki’s Veggie Plate: collard greens, green beans and candied yams. The third course will be the meat of the meal, literally: your choice of Trey-Deuce (three pieces of fried chicken and two waffles) or shrimp & grits (sauteed shrimp, scallions and bacon served over a bowl of creamy cheese grits). Finally, the fourth course will round out a night of delectables with one of Kuzzo’s desserts.

Tickets to the Takeover of Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles cost $53, and include taxes, gratuity and a donation to Forgotten Harvest. Better hurry — tickets are almost sold out! To purchase your tickets, click here
