Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers and Detroit Free Press have teamed up for the Top 10 Takeover, a series of restaurant takeovers that will highlight the ten best new restaurants in Detroit and the surrounding area. Last time, we looked at Forest. Next, the Takeover heads to Detroit to check out Townhouse on August 23.
Townhouse opened its downtown Detroit location last year and has continued to seat 314 Detroit diners at all times, including lunch and dinner, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Owned by Jeremy Sasson with a kitchen run by executive chef Michael Barrera, Townhouse is flashy without being “too much.” Dining outdoors while facing Detroit’s busiest scene, Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit, begs a sense of awe in what kind of experience is possible in the city that is redefining itself.
The architectural design of Townhouse is just one of the things that separate it from other dining locations on Woodward Avenue.
“The glass-enclosed atrium offers a lovely place for lunch or dinner in any season, but when it opens up to the warm summer sky it really becomes a romantic, one-of-a-kind place,” said Detroit Free Press restaurant critic Mark Kurlyandchik.

Those attending the Takeover of Townhouse on August 23 will enjoy a five-course dinner:
First course: “In with the old, In with the new”
Otoro nigiri, soy and hamachi shooter: cucumber, ponzu, shiso, scallion, nori, yuzu pearls, masago, ryu
Second course: “Duck, duck, toast”
Duck rillettes, seeded grain toast, blackberry mostarda, barrel aged feta, thyme creme fraiche
Third course: “Eastern Market chopped”
Raw market vegetables, grains, and greens, Townhouse vinaigrette
Fourth course: “Flintstone rib”
Smoked and braised beef rib, elotes, queso fresco, ancho chili, marrow aioli
Dessert: “Smokin”
S’mores Baked Alaska: chocolate crunch ice cream, brown butter cake, vanilla bean meringue, house made graham crackers, smoked milk chocolate sauce
If you are not able to make it to the Takeover, Kurlyandchik recommends trying to make the trip downtown, if only for the sushi alone.
“I recently wrote about all the new sushi concepts coming to Detroit,” said Kurlyandchik, “but Townhouse has been and for now remains one of the only sushi options downtown.”
Tickets to the Takeover are on sale, but tables for two have sold out. Tables for four are still available for $272 and include taxes, gratuity and a donation to Forgotten Harvest.
As with all of the Top 10 Takeovers, Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers is giving away three pairs of tickets to the Takeover of Townhouse to three lucky winners. The contest is currently underway and ends August 18. Click here to enter!
